Water quality analysis of river Mahanadi in uttack City, Odisha, ndia

Water quality basing on physicochemical parameters of river Mahanadi in Cuttack District has been assessed during January 2008 and December 2009. Water samples each for three study stations were analyzed for nine physicochemical parameters namely; pH, total alkalinity, total hardness, Chloride, Calcium, Magnesium, total solids, dissolved Oxygen, BOD 5- days.. The index ranges between minimum of 50.3186, 48.0595, 50.6149 and maximum of 54.7067, 52.4681, 69.2587 at three stations respectively (upstream, Banki: S , Middlestream, Naraj: S and downstream, Kaliaboda: S ). These were rated poor where water quality is adverse and the conditions deviate fromdesirable levels.
