Abstract :
Ph2PbF2 (2) and Ph3BiF2 (3) were used for the fluorine–chlorine metathesis reactions of organometallic chlorides. The preparation of Cp*TiF3 (Cp* = C5Me5), Cp2ZrF2 and Cp2HfF2 is reported. In comparison the yields are, however, lower than those using Me3SnF. The fluorination of Cp*TaCl4 gives [Ph3BiCl]+[Cp*TaF5]–. 2 and 3 do not show chlorine fluorine exchange with later transition metal complexes at elevated temperatures. The structures of Cp*(Cp′)ZrF2, Cp*(Cp′)ZrCl2, and Cp*(Cp′)HfF2 (Cp′ = C5H4SiMe3) were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction.
