Abstract :
The IR and XPS characterization as well as the determination of contact angles and refractive indices of polystyrene (PS) and styrene–butadiene–styrene block copolymer (SBS) films treated with perfluorodibutyroyl peroxide (n-C3F7CO2)2 in CClF2CCl2F solutions at room temperature indicate that the electron transfer reactions leading to radical ring-perfluoropropylation of PS and perfluoropropylation-perfluorobutyloxylation of the CC double bonds in SBS have induced properties like high transparency, water repellency, oil repellency, chemical resistance and much lowered refractive indices of the modified films.
