Abstract
Xenon difluoride dissolved in dried propylene carbonate (PC) is stable against not only the solvent but also metallic lithium immersed in the solution. In an electrochemical cell (Li/LiPF6 (1 M), XeF2 (0.1–0.3 M)/graphite), having a cell voltage of 4.2 V, XeF2 is reduced on the graphite cathode to give lithium fluoride and elemental xenon. The Faraday efficiency was about 80%.
