  • Abstract
    Addition of pentafluorothio bromide, SF5Br, to ethyl propiolate results in an 1:1 adduct, SF5CHCBrC(O)OC2H5, and a small amount of a 1:2 adduct. The former is converted by reduction to the corresponding β-SF5-acrylic ester, SF5CHCHC(O)OC2H5. Treatment of SF5CH2CBr(CH3)C(O)OCH3 with base produces methyl-β-SF5-methacrylate, SF5CHC(CH3)C(O)OCH3. The preparation and characterization of these new compounds are described.
