Abstract :
Considerable development of roller compacted concrete (RCC) in different fields of construction such as dam construction, motivated researchers to study the effect of different parameters on the properties of RCC accurately. The time span between the beginning of mixing the materials until the time of finishing compacting, is one of the parameters effecting the RCC properties. In this paper, effect of changing the time span between mixing and compacting on the mechanical properties of conventional concrete and RCC containing ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) was studied. Results shows that the greater the delay in compacting, increased the loss in conventional concrete properties, but by using GGBFS as a part of the cementitious material, more delay in compacting not only does not cause the loss of properties, but, in some conditions, improved the concrete compressive strength, permeability, absorption and adsorption.
