Abstract :
Two experimental laboratory studies were carried out on reinforced concrete beams whose tensed or compressed reinforcement were subjected to accelerated corrosion. In each case, the analysis of the cracking on the concrete cover and the electrochemical potentials originated in the corrosion of the reinforcements, and the gravimetry of the affected bars were carried out throughout the tests in order to detect differences in the external and internal manifestation of the damage respectively.
showed greater cover cracking but less loss of the bars section in compressed reinforcements than in tensed ones (with the same stress).
