Abstract :
The asymmetric synthesis of the hydroindolone core (5) of the Amaryllidaceae alkaloids employing chiral bicyclic lactams is described. The vicinal quaternary and tertiary stereocenters were assembled via an addition of lactam 14 enolate to acrolein.
