Abstract :
3-Methoxypiperidines were converted into 2-(bromomethyl)pyrrolidines by reaction with boron(III) bromide in dichloromethane. This reaction proceeds via an intermediate bicyclic aziridinium ion and features a rare conversion of piperidines into pyrrolidines.
