Abstract :
Many studies have focused on the conversion of fly ash from coal burning operations to a useful material. However, out of 55 million tons of fly ash generated in the United States, only 27% is being reused or recycled. Alkali Ash Material (AAM) is a novel material, which is made by converting fly ash to a useful construction material, with several benefits. AAM can gain compressive strength of up to 11,000 psi and flexural strength of up to 1200 psi in two days. This quick gain of strength is very useful in many construction applications. Using fly ash to produce AAM not only creates construction material with desirable properties, but also recycles a large quantity of fly ash that otherwise would have been added to already huge stockpiles of fly ash in landfills.
