Vicinal tricarbonyls as redox-controlled molecular rotors

Using electrochemistry, spectroelectrochemistry and density functional computational methods, we have demonstrated that tricarbonyl amide 1ox undergoes reversible conformational switching upon reduction to the corresponding radical anion 1rad−.
