[2,3]-Wittig rearrangement of γ-allyloxy-β-ketoesters. A new access to tetronic acids

Dilithiated γ-allyloxy-β-ketoesters undergo a [2,3]-Wittig rearrangement leading to protected γ-hydroxy-β-ketoesters, which can be converted to tetronic acids.
