Abstract :
Bicyclo[2.2.2]octylidene is formed in four quite different ways. Reactions of the precursors do not complicate the chemistry of the carbene. The products are tricyclo[2.2.2.02,6]octane and bicyclo[2.2.2]octene, formed in approximately a 70:30 ratio.
