Polystyrylsulfonyl chloride resin: an efficient solid-supported condensation reagent for the solution phase synthesis of esters

We describe the use of the readily available polystyryl sulfonyl chloride resin in the solution-phase synthesis of esters from carboxylic acids and alcohols or phenols in high yields and purity. All byproducts can be removed by filtration.
