Abstract :
The macrocyclic core of cycloviracin and glucolipsin has been synthesised in ten steps from levoglucosan and (S)-(−)-dimethyl malate. The limited number of steps to obtain this macrolide makes it a valuable procedure for the synthesis of analogues of cycloviracin and glucolipsin.
