Abstract :
A three-step procedure for the synthesis of chiral annulated indenes is described in which nopinone, verbenone and menthone are converted to their enolate form, alkylated with 2-bromomethylbromobenzene, ring-closed with CrCl2/cat. NiCl2 and dehydrated with catalytic acid.
