Energetics and bonding of the Pt(1 1 1)(3 × 3)–Ag,I surface compound

The cohesive energy of the electrodeposited surface compound Pt(1 1 1)(3 × 3)–Ag,I is determined by combining experimental results from electrochemical, contact angle and thermal desorption measurements. The value is compared with a simple bonding model and used to rationalize aspects of the observed structure.
