Abstract :
Active carbon has been employed for the first time as the counter electrode in a two-electrode configuration for pulse amperometric detection of electroactive species. Due to the large specific surface area, active carbon presents considerable double layer capacitance at the solid/solution interface and offers a constant potential during the electrochemical detection. With this configuration, hydrogen peroxide is detected with a Pt disc working electrode. And the results turn out a good linearity (R2 = 0.997) as well as a wide detection range, which is comparable with that of conventional three-electrode configuration and is much better than that of two-electrode configurations using other inert materials as counter electrodes.
