Abstract :
The effect of easily ionized element (EIE) matrices on analyte emission, from a parallel plate capacitively coupled plasma (PP-CCP), has been studied. NaCl and NaNO3 were used as typical matrices and the interference on Ag emission was studied as a function of the amount of EIE and applied plasma forward power. Compared with the emission signal without the presence of matrices, the presence of either NaCl or NaNO3 as a concomitant in the sample, causes an interference effect by both enhancing, and decreasing, the emission intensity depending on the amount of added EIE. The maximum signal interference, signal enhancement, was observed at 125 W plasma forward power. The degree of enhancement from an EIE decreases with increasing forward power switching to a signal depression at a forward power of 250 W.
