Abstract :
Surface reconstruction phases of Au/Si(0 0 1) system were studied with scanning tunneling microscopy and low energy electron diffraction in a converge range of 0.3–2.5 ML and an annealing temperature range of RT to 800°C, and a structure diagram was presented. In addition to the structures reported previously, two new phases were discovered; a 8×2 structure in a low coverage region and a 10027 structure in coexistence with c(8×2) and 5×3 structures. In the latter structure a characteristic phase boundary that is considered to serve as a generation center for 5×3 structure was observed.
