Abstract :
The role of atomic and magnetic ordering in thermal oscillation effects of surface atoms in a Fe–Ni system has been systematically investigated as a function of chemical composition using low-energy electron diffraction. It has been established that in this system, the magnetic moment linearly depends on chemical composition and decreases with increasing nickel concentration. It is shown that the surface always has a non-zero long-range order due to diffusion and lattice defects.
