Abstract :
The electronic and atomic structures of the Mg-adsorbed Si(1 0 0)2×2 and 2×3 surfaces have been investigated by using high-resolution synchrotron radiation photoemission spectroscopy. The Mg 2p spectra for both surfaces were well fitted with a single component, indicating that the Mg atom is adsorbed at a unique site. The Si 2p spectra were also decomposed into four components (two surface components, one second layer related component, and a bulk component). These analysis results reveal that a Mg atom preferably adsorbs at a bridge site on the Si(1 0 0)2×1 surface.
