Hydrodynamic study of sedimentation flows and avalanches

This paper presents 3D experimental methods to investigate high-density sedimentation flows and granular medium. The velocities and the volume fraction of the solid phase are obtained by particle tracking velocimetry in a totally transparent mixing of particles and fluid. The measurements are validated on a very agitated sedimentation flow. At last, some developments to study condensation processes and avalanches are presented.
