Abstract
Molecular dynamics simulations were used to determine the ordering of adsorbed ice layers vs their distance to a perfect (0 0 1) surface of MgO. The structural changes in these layers were studied via the dynamical behavior of the water molecules, as a function of coverage and temperature. It is shown that the power spectra I(ω) of the linear and angular velocity autocorrelation functions strongly depend on the water ordering, and that the disappearance of specific frequencies in I(ω) indicates the melting of the corresponding adlayers.
