Abstract :
Theoretical study of the formation of STM images of the SiC(0 0 1)-c(2×2) surface is presented. STM images and current profiles are simulated for two types of surface reconstruction: symmetrical and asymmetrical-bridging-dimer model. Simulations show that the topography of unoccupied states image strongly depends on asymmetry of surface dimers. Simulated images support asymmetrical-bridging-dimer model, suggested by recent experimental results.
