Abstract
This paper studies the heat-resistant property of the adhesive/carbon–carbon composites joints with infrared analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and shear strength tests. Infrared analysis and thermogravimetric analysis indicate that the butadiene–acrylonitrile rubber, non-heat-resistant groups and heat-resistant groups of the main chain structure of the adhesive decomposed initially at 300, 450 and 550 °C, respectively. At 750 °C, the adhesive has changed into inorganic silicate. The changes of the contents of oxygen and silicate elements on the surface of the adhesive and carbon–carbon composites analyzed with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy at different temperatures are in accordance with the results of infrared spectroscopy analysis. Shear strength tests of the adhesive/carbon–carbon composites joints change from 13.2 MPa at room temperature to 0.6 MPa at 750 °C, and maintain this up to 900 °C, which supports the above analysis.
