Abstract
The temperature state and the stressed and strained state of the vessel of a VVER-640 reactor during a severe core melt accident with poor external cooling of the vessel are calculated. It is shown that a meltthrough is preceded by considerable axial displacement of the bottom due to the excess pressure in the vessel.
