Abstract :
Physical and chemical analyses of the products of interaction of the vessel steel and the molten corium in a VVER-640 reactor have shown that intensive destruction of this steel is the result of disruption of the lining (crust) on its surface in accordance with the mechanism of melting and oxidation: this is followed by dissolution of the oxidized components in the molten corium.
