Abstract :
Using the plane wave expansion method, we have solved Maxwell’s equations for the propagation of electromagnetic waves in photonic crystal fibers. Taking the cross section of the photonic crystal fiber as a big unit cell, and generating an artificial infinite two-dimensional periodic system, the plane wave expansion allows us to study the properties of the core in exactly the same way as defects in photonic crystals.
