On a model of glucose absorption

The authors have reviewed the model of glucose absorption presented by Lehmann and Deutsch [Lehmann ED, Deutsch T. A physiological model of glucose–insulin interaction in type 1 diabetes mellitus. J Biomed Eng 1992;14:235–42]. After simulating the rate of gastric emptying for different glucose loads, the results suggest there is a mismatch between the total amount of glucose ingested and the amount of carbohydrate that enters the gut for glucose loads below 10 g. In the following sections we describe the model and the methodology followed to identify this shortcoming.
