Abstract :
An analysis of the data in the literature and from full-scale experiments on a multistage evaporator plant has shown that no heavy thermolysis or entrainment of organic substances arriving with the feedwater takes place in a normally operating multistage evaporator plant. When the concentration factor Kc is greater than 50 for a parallelly fed multistage evaporator plant and a boiling water temperature in the first stage is not more than 150-155°C, the total concentration of formic and acetic acids in the distillate was, on average, not higher than 30-50 ppb. Regeneration of Na-exchange filters with brine reduced from the evaporator plant blowdown water within the framework of the low-waste technology did not increase the concentration of carboxylic acids in the distillate.
