Abstract
The effects of substitution of Ru for Mn in the layered charge ordered manganites, La0.5Sr1.5MnO4 and LaSr2Mn2O7, have been studied by X-ray diffraction, magnetization and resistivity measurement techniques. The solubility of Ru in both La0.5Sr1.5MnO4 and LaSr2Mn2O7 is much lower than that observed for perovskite manganites. For both the charge ordered parent compounds, the substitution of Ru destroys charge ordering (CO), induces ferromagnetic moments and improves the magneto-resistive properties. The possible origins of these effects are discussed.
