Abstract
We present measurements of the magnetic susceptibility and paramagnetic resonance of K3Nd2(NO3)9, a cubic system containing four nonequivalent Nd3+ sites having threefold rotational symmetry along (111) and equivalent axes. Paramagnetic resonance reveals g factors very similar to those of Nd2Mg3(NO3)12×24H2O, indicating that the ion ground state, and hence the crystal field, is very similar in the two cases. The magnetic susceptibility indicates that exchange is antiferromagnetic, and exhibits an antiferromagnetic ordering feature near T=40 mK.
