Abstract
Shock compression of a TiN and CuO mixture up to 48 GPa and characterization of post shock samples by Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction techniques have realized a fast redox reaction that yields well-crystallized rutile (TiO2) in less than 1 μs. Experimental results indicate that TiN itself is stable at high nitrogen pressure and does not decompose into Ti3N4+Ti at shock pressure up to 42 GPa.
