Abstract
High temperature study of solid C60, pristine and polymerized, was performed by Raman spectroscopy up to 843 K and 573 K respectively. The peak position of the Ag(2) mode showed a strong and non-linear temperature dependence which can be interpreted as a result of anharmonic effects. The temperature dependence of the Ag(2) mode, characteristic for C60 dimers, linear C60 chains and tetragonal C60, was tracked up to the depolymerization temperature and showed a behavior similar to pristine C60 but with less softening. These data could be used also as a reference for in situ studies of C60 chemical transformations which occur at high temperatures, e.g. polymerization and doping with alkali metals.
