Abstract :
The Gd60Co26Al10Ge4 alloy, consisting of an amorphous phase matrix and primary Gd5Ge3 particles, is prepared by suck-casting. The glass transition temperature ( T g ) and crystallization temperature ( T X ) occur at 297 ∘C and 323 ∘C respectively. The maximal magnetic entropy change ( Δ S M ) under 0–5 T is about 8.2 J/(kg K) at 140 K and the refrigeration capacity (RC) is about 754 J/kg, which makes the Gd60Co26Al10Ge4 bulk metallic glass matrix composite a promising candidate for a magnetic refrigerant.
