Abstract
We have studied the magnetothermal properties of La0.8Sm0.2Mn2Si2. The magnetic contribution to the heat capacity has been estimated by using the zero-field and 1 T magnetic field data. According to Arrott plots, the La0.8Sm0.2Mn2Si2 has second order transition at Curie temperature. The λ -type peak in the heat capacity data also confirms the second order transition at the Curie temperature. The electronic, magnetic and lattice contributions to the heat capacity of this compound are determined and analyzed. Moreover, the Debye temperature and N ( E F ) have been estimated by using the heat capacity data under zero and 1 T magnetic fields. The ΔSM(T) curve from heat capacity is in very good agreement with that from Maxwell relation.
