Abstract
BaMn2Si2O7 crystallizes in the BaCo2Si2O7 structure type. Its structure has been refined by Rietveld techniques from X-ray powder diffraction data. The magnetic susceptibility (χm) and specific heat (Cp) of this compound show a predominant one-dimensional magnetic interaction when T>20°C, which can be understood in the framework of the Heisenberg linear chain model. The magnetic interaction between the chains becomes appreciable at lower temperature. The one-dimensional magnetic interaction corresponds to the quasi-one-dimensional structure of this compound.
