Abstract :
A version of the in-situ radiotracer ‘foil’ method has been used to study the electroaggregation of silver radiosol on a polycrystalline gold electrode, and the surface electrochemistry of the resulting radiocolloid-modified electrode. Silver sol/radiosol labelled with 110mAg has been prepared with no stabilizing agent, using NaBH4 reduction. It was found that the surface excess of Ag-containing species measured, as well as the electroaggregation–disaggregation (i.e. electroattachment–detachment, electrodeposition–stripping) processes are time and electrode potential dependent. The ‘mobility’ of the particles (deposited–detached) has also been discussed.
