Abstract :
The one-dimensional superlattice, prepared by depositing bis(dimethylglyoximato)platinum(II): Pt(dmg)2 and bis(diethylglyoximato)platinum(II): Pt(deg)2 one after another using the multi source MBE technique, was examined. It was found that Pt(dmg)2 has epitaxially grown on a cleaved KBr (100) surface, whose chain axis oriented perpendicular to the film surface. It was also revealed that Pt(dmg)2 formed a mixed crystal with Pt(deg)2 in their co-evaporated film, although their original lattice constants are different from each other. These conditions make it possible to produce a superlattice structure with the one-dimensional system by their alternative deposition and by controlling the thickness of each layer. Alternatively, deposited films of Pt(dmg)2 and Pt(deg)2 showed unique peak shifts of the dz2–pz transition bands in the absorption spectra. It indicates that a hetero-junction in a linear platinum chain between platinum of Pt(dmg)2 and Pt(deg)2 could be formed by the alternative deposition. These results revealed that the unit metal–chain length in a one-dimensional system could be tuned by the control of the deposited film thickness.
