Abstract
A single crystal of chromium doped SrLaGaO4 has been grown by the Czochralski method. The Cr3+ sites have been indentified on the basis of time-resolved luminescence spectra and luminescence decay curves recorded in the 5–300 K temperature region. One Cr3+ site in CrO6 octahedra distorted by random distribution of Sr2+ and La3+ ions over sites with C4v symmetry is indicated by structural investigations. Instead, three distinct sites of Cr3+ ions situated in the low, medium and high crystal field occur in the lattice of SrLaGaO4.
