Abstract
The optical absorption and MCD spectrum of gadolinium-doped ZBLAN fluorozirconate glass were recorded at room temperature. The induced electric dipole contributions to the experimental dipole strengths were parametrized in terms of phenomenological Judd–Ofelt intensity parameters. The parameter set obtained by a standard least-squares fitting procedure is: Ω2=(3.35±0.62)×10−20 cm2, Ω6=(2.81±0.08)×10−20 cm2, and Ω4 is indeterminate. Special attention is given to the characteristic spectroscopic properties of the Gd3+ ion.
