Abstract
Thienyl monolayers covalently bonded to a Si(111) surface were prepared by a wet chemical process in which a Si(111)–H surface was brominated to form Si(111)–Br and further reacted with lithiated thiophenes. Both N-bromosuccinimide and bromochloroform were found to be effective brominating reagents. The derivatized Si(111) surfaces were characterized by XPS, AES, ATR–FTIR and NEXAFS.
