Abstract
The photodissociation dynamics of HCl embedded in an Ar-matrix and the related stationary absorption spectrum is analyzed theoretically. In applying the density matrix technique to consider the stochastic influence of the rare gas atoms on the hydrogen motion, a complementary approach to existing computations is presented. The complete three-dimensional dissipative wavepacket dynamics of the hydrogen atom following the photodissociation process is investigated in detail. At higher temperatures a back-scattering process of the hydrogen from the second coordination shell to the first one is found which restricts the cage escape in combination with intra-cage relaxation.
