Abstract :
We present theoretical results, using the tracer-diffusion theory based on the generalized Langevin equation approach, for the time-dependent electrolyte contribution to the friction coefficient on a non-spherical charged tracer of arbitrary mobility immersed in an ionic solution. We find that in the long-time asymptotic regime the transverse and longitudinal electrolyte friction components behave as that corresponding to a spherical charged tracer. As an illustrative example, we compute the electrostatic longitudinal and transverse contributions to the friction coefficient and also show that several results obtained earlier by other authors follow from ours as particular cases and/or limits.
