Preparation, isolation and characterisation of Eu@C74: the first isolated europium endohedral fullerene

Eu@C74, the first europium metallofullerene isolated so far is studied by VIS/NIR, infrared, Raman and ESR spectroscopy to clarify its redox state. The electrochemical behaviour was investigated by cyclic voltammetry. Based on the results of all these characterisation methods, we propose an electronic state Eu2+@C742−. No isomerism was to be detected for this endohedral fullerene.
