Abstract :
The quantum yields of photolysis (Φp) of C60,C70,C76, and C84 dissolved in tetrachloroethylene, and irradiated by visible cw Ar+ laser radiation were determined and compared. We found that Φp(C60)>Φp(C70)>Φp(C76)>Φp(C84). The high photostability of C84 under the given irradiation conditions is discussed in terms of the particular physical and chemical properties of this fullerene cage. The quantum yields of singlet oxygen production (ΦΔ) photosensitized by C70,C76, and C84 were determined. Their values are correlated with the observed photodecomposition yields.
