Abstract
The effect of a high magnetic field (< 14 T) on the intramolecular exciplex fluorescence generated from a phenanthrene and dimethylaniline chain-linked molecule is studied in acetonitrile. On increasing the magnetic field from zero to ≈ 1 T, the fluorescence decay rate decreases steeply and then increases gradually up to ≈ 14 T. The high magnetic field (> 1 T) enhances the singlet-triplet intersystem crossing of an intramolecular radical ion pair intervening in the reaction (Δ g mechanism).
