Abstract :
Substantial electronic and vibrational interactions between solvent and C60 are revealed in the resonance Raman spectra of C60 by the appearance of bands corresponding to 11 modes that are Raman and/or IR inactive. These bands result mainly from solvent-induced rather than isotope-induced lowering of symmetry of both the ground and excited states of C60. The nature of solvent interactions with the surface of C60 are discussed.
