Abstract
Canonical RRKM theory has been applied to the two channels of the reaction CH+N2. The transition state parameters used to describe the system were formulated from theoretical potential energy surface parameters and experimental rate constants. Rate constant expressions are presented for the pressure dependent low temperature channel of HCNN adduct formation, and the high temperature prompt NO reaction in which HCN+N are produced by a spin-forbidden surface crossing from a different complex. The expressions fit existing data well and provide a basis for extrapolation to combustion conditions.
